General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — Your Rights

Last Updated: 18 September 2026

Your Privacy. Your Information. Your Rights.

At SecretDoors.net, we believe that you should have meaningful control over your personal information.

SecretDoors is an adults-only platform where users may create profiles, publish listings, communicate privately and share personal information with other users. We recognise that some of the information people choose to provide may be particularly personal or sensitive.

This page explains your data protection rights and how you can exercise them.

For privacy enquiries and data protection requests, please contact:

support@secretdoors.net

1. Your Rights Under UK Data Protection Law

Depending upon the circumstances and applicable legal requirements, you may have rights concerning the personal information SecretDoors holds or processes about you.

These rights include:

  • the Right to Be Informed;
  • the Right of Access;
  • the Right to Rectification;
  • the Right to Erasure;
  • the Right to Restrict Processing;
  • the Right to Data Portability;
  • the Right to Object; and
  • rights concerning Automated Decision-Making and Profiling.

These rights are not absolute. Certain legal conditions, exemptions and limitations may apply.

The Information Commissioner’s Office confirms these rights for general UK GDPR processing.

2. Right to Be Informed

You have the right to know how your personal information is collected and used.

SecretDoors provides information about this through its Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy explains matters including:

  • what information we collect;
  • why we collect it;
  • how we use it;
  • our lawful bases for processing;
  • who information may be shared with;
  • how long information may be retained;
  • your data protection rights;
  • international transfers;
  • cookies and similar technologies;
  • security measures; and
  • how to contact us.

You should read our Privacy Policy alongside this GDPR Rights page.

3. Right of Access

You have the right to ask whether SecretDoors is processing personal information about you.

Where applicable, you can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

This is commonly known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

You may also request supplementary information concerning the processing of your personal information, including matters such as:

  • the purposes for processing;
  • the categories of personal information concerned;
  • recipients or categories of recipients;
  • retention periods or the criteria used to determine them;
  • information concerning your other data protection rights;
  • information about the source of information where it was not obtained directly from you;
  • information concerning relevant automated decision-making or profiling; and
  • appropriate safeguards concerning certain international transfers.

The ICO describes the right of access as the right to obtain a copy of personal information together with relevant supplementary information.

How to request access

Send your request to:

support@secretdoors.net

Please include enough information for us to identify your account and understand what information you are requesting.

We may need to verify your identity before releasing personal information.

4. Right to Rectification

You have the right to ask SecretDoors to correct personal information that is inaccurate.

You may also ask us to complete information that is incomplete.

For example, you may ask us to correct:

  • an incorrect email address;
  • an incorrect date of birth;
  • inaccurate profile information;
  • incorrect account information; or
  • other inaccurate personal information.

Where appropriate, you may also be able to correct information yourself through your SecretDoors account.

If you cannot make the correction yourself, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

The ICO confirms that individuals have a right to have inaccurate personal information rectified or incomplete information completed.

5. Right to Erasure — The Right to Be Forgotten

You may have the right to ask SecretDoors to delete your personal information.

This is commonly referred to as the Right to Erasure or the Right to Be Forgotten.

You may request deletion where, for example:

  • the information is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected;
  • you withdraw consent and there is no other lawful basis for processing;
  • you successfully object to processing;
  • information has been unlawfully processed; or
  • applicable law otherwise requires deletion.

However, the right to erasure is not absolute.

We may be entitled or required to retain certain information where necessary for reasons including:

  • compliance with a legal obligation;
  • accounting or tax requirements;
  • establishing, exercising or defending legal claims;
  • fraud prevention;
  • security;
  • investigating abuse;
  • maintaining necessary records; or
  • another lawful basis recognised under applicable law.

The ICO recognises a right to request erasure but also notes that legal conditions and exemptions apply.

Requesting deletion

To request deletion of your information, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

6. Right to Restrict Processing

You may have the right to ask SecretDoors to restrict the processing of your personal information.

Restriction means that we may continue to store the information but limit how it is used.

This right may apply in circumstances including where:

  • you dispute the accuracy of your personal information while its accuracy is being checked;
  • you believe processing is unlawful but do not want the information deleted;
  • we no longer need the information but you need it for a legal claim; or
  • you have objected to processing and we are considering whether our legitimate grounds override your objection.

The ICO explains that restriction can act as an alternative to erasure in certain circumstances.

To request restriction of processing, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

7. Right to Data Portability

In certain circumstances, you have the right to receive personal information that you have provided to SecretDoors in a:

  • structured;
  • commonly used; and
  • machine-readable

format.

You may also have the right to request that the information is transmitted directly to another organisation where technically feasible.

The right to data portability generally applies where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means, subject to the applicable legal requirements.

If you wish to make a data portability request, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

8. Right to Object

You may have the right to object to certain processing of your personal information.

This can include processing based upon legitimate interests.

You also have an important right to object to processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes.

If you object to direct marketing, your personal information should no longer be processed for that purpose, subject to applicable law.

You can contact:

support@secretdoors.net

to exercise an applicable right to object.

9. Right to Withdraw Consent

Where SecretDoors processes your personal information on the basis of your consent, you may withdraw that consent.

Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before your consent was withdrawn.

For example, if you have given consent to a particular optional processing activity, you may subsequently withdraw that consent.

To withdraw consent or ask about consent-based processing, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

10. Special Category and Sensitive Personal Information

Some information that may be voluntarily provided through SecretDoors may constitute special category personal data under UK GDPR.

This may include information concerning:

  • sexual orientation;
  • sex life;
  • racial or ethnic origin;
  • religious or philosophical beliefs;
  • health;
  • biometric information used for identification; and
  • other categories protected by applicable data protection law.

The UK GDPR provides additional protection for special category information.

Where SecretDoors processes special category information, an Article 6 lawful basis and an appropriate additional condition under Article 9 must be established.

Where appropriate, SecretDoors may rely upon explicit consent for particular processing involving special category information.

Explicit consent has additional requirements and should be clear, specific and capable of being withdrawn.

You should therefore think carefully before voluntarily including sensitive information in:

  • your profile;
  • your listing;
  • photographs;
  • messages;
  • descriptions;
  • preferences; or
  • other areas of the platform.

11. Public Information and Your Rights

SecretDoors allows users to publish information through profiles and listings.

You remain responsible for information you choose to make publicly available.

Your data protection rights still apply to personal information processed by SecretDoors, but publicly publishing information can create additional privacy risks.

Other users or members of the public may be able to:

  • view information;
  • copy information;
  • take screenshots;
  • save photographs;
  • reproduce descriptions; or
  • share publicly available information elsewhere.

SecretDoors cannot guarantee the removal of information that another person has independently copied or redistributed outside our platform.

For this reason, we strongly recommend that you do not publish:

  • your home address;
  • private financial information;
  • passwords;
  • government identification numbers;
  • unnecessary contact information; or
  • other information that could compromise your privacy or safety.

12. Your Rights Concerning Your Profile

You can normally manage certain information directly through your SecretDoors account.

Depending upon the features available, you may be able to:

  • edit your profile;
  • change your username or display information;
  • change photographs;
  • update your description;
  • amend listing information;
  • change account preferences;
  • remove information; or
  • deactivate your account.

If information cannot be changed through your account, contact:

support@secretdoors.net

13. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

SecretDoors may use automated technical processes for purposes such as:

  • spam detection;
  • fraud detection;
  • security monitoring;
  • content filtering;
  • categorisation;
  • search functionality;
  • listing recommendations; or
  • other website functionality.

Automated processing does not necessarily constitute automated decision-making subject to the specific protections of Article 22 UK GDPR.

Where solely automated decision-making produces legal or similarly significant effects on an individual, additional UK GDPR protections may apply.

Where applicable, individuals may have rights concerning:

  • being informed about relevant automated decision-making;
  • receiving meaningful information about the logic involved;
  • understanding the significance and envisaged consequences;
  • requesting human intervention;
  • expressing their point of view; and
  • challenging a decision.

14. How to Make a GDPR Request

You do not need to use a special legal form to exercise your rights.

You can make a request by contacting:

support@secretdoors.net

Your request can be made in writing and should clearly explain what you are asking us to do.

For example:

“I would like to request a copy of the personal information SecretDoors holds about me.”

or:

“I would like to request deletion of my SecretDoors account and personal information.”

or:

“I would like SecretDoors to correct inaccurate information associated with my account.”

15. Identity Verification

Because SecretDoors may hold private and sensitive information, we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

This is intended to prevent personal information being disclosed to someone who is not entitled to receive it.

We will seek to request only information reasonably necessary to verify your identity.

Where appropriate, we may ask you to provide information associated with your account.

16. Response Times

We will deal with valid data protection requests within the time period required by applicable law.

For many UK GDPR requests, the standard period is one month, although applicable law may permit an extension in certain circumstances, particularly where a request is complex or numerous.

If an extension applies, we will explain this where required.

The ICO’s guidance confirms that the applicable response period depends upon the nature and circumstances of the request.

17. When We May Refuse or Limit a Request

Your data protection rights are important, but they are not absolute.

There may be circumstances in which SecretDoors is permitted or required to:

  • refuse a request;
  • partially fulfil a request;
  • restrict information supplied;
  • retain information; or
  • apply another lawful exemption.

This may occur where, for example:

  • another person’s privacy would be affected;
  • disclosure would interfere with legal obligations;
  • information is required for legal claims;
  • information must be retained for fraud or security purposes;
  • a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive; or
  • another statutory exemption applies.

Where we refuse or limit a request, we will provide an explanation where legally required.

18. Data Concerning Other People

Your right of access relates primarily to your own personal information.

If information you request also contains personal information belonging to another person, we may need to consider that person’s privacy rights before providing the information.

We will take reasonable steps to ensure that disclosure does not improperly reveal another person’s personal information.

19. Deactivated and Deleted Accounts

If you close or delete your SecretDoors account, we will process your information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.

Information that no longer needs to be retained will be deleted or anonymised where reasonably practicable.

Certain information may nevertheless need to be retained for legitimate or legal reasons, including:

  • financial records;
  • fraud prevention;
  • security;
  • legal claims;
  • regulatory requirements;
  • abuse investigations; or
  • backup and disaster-recovery purposes.

20. Complaining About Our Use of Your Data

If you believe that SecretDoors has not handled your personal information correctly, please contact us first:

support@secretdoors.net

We will consider your concern and seek to resolve it.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Official ICO website:

Information Commissioner’s Office

The ICO provides guidance and mechanisms for individuals who believe their data protection rights have not been respected.

21. Privacy and Discretion at SecretDoors

SecretDoors understands that people may use the platform precisely because they value discretion.

We therefore encourage users to take an active role in protecting their own privacy.

We recommend that you:

  • use a strong, unique password;
  • never share your password;
  • avoid publishing your exact residential address;
  • consider using a display name rather than your real name;
  • carefully consider photographs before uploading them;
  • avoid unnecessarily revealing identifying information;
  • exercise caution when communicating with strangers;
  • report suspicious or abusive behaviour; and
  • contact us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
